Headway Christmas Party 11th December 2018 - click here for photos

Christmas 2018

On Tuesday 11th December we held our biggest Christmas lunch so far! Over 70 clients, volunteers, staff and friends enjoyed a lovely Christmas celebration. The day started with refreshments and carol singing. We were very lucky to have several members from Wycombe Philharmonic choir who came to lead the carols with everyone. At midday we transferred to the main hall which our volunteers had worked really hard to decorate beautifully, as you can see in the photos.
We enjoyed a two course Christmas lunch followed by tea and coffee which was delicious as usual. After lunch we were entertained with some wonderful singing by Nik Stoter, one of our favourite entertainers. As you can see from the photos Nik got us dancing and some braver members even enjoyed dueting with him.
During the afternoon we drew the raffle and the lucky winners were able to chose a beautiful hamper from a selection that one of our talented volunteers creates.
We also said a sad farewell to two members of staff, Jenny our Services Manager and Loraine one of our Coordinators. We wish them all the best for the future.
It was a lovely day and a great end to 2018 for Headway South Bucks.

Owl Day 181018

Owl Day Thursday 18th October 2018 - click here to view photos

On Thursday 18th October 2018 Headway South Bucks held a special "Owl Event". To start the day everyone was able to enjoy a selection of Owl related activities. As you can see from the photos there was an Owl wordsearch and a selection of Owl adult art therapy. We made Owls from facecloths which were very popular as well as feather collage Owls. Our creativity was challenged by the Owl shaped biscuits that were available to decorate with icing before eating! Another popular activity was the Owl money banks which were decorated with porcelain pens. Scratch art and wooden Owl key rings were also on offer.

After all this creativity we enjoyed a fish and chip lunch followed by a selection of yummy cakes! The highlight of the day was a visit from Colin Sutherland from Wings of Freedom. He came to talk to us and show us his beautiful birds. Firstly we met Bob, a Falcon, followed by Rocky the Barn Owl. Possibly the most entertaining visitor was Norman, a European Eagle Owl who happily sat on the floor in the middle of the hall completely unfazed by us. Lastly we met Bert the baby Tawny Owl who everyone thought was very cute.

As you can see from the photo gallery the Owls were very popular and a number of clients were delighted to be able to hold them.

Finally everyone was given an Owl party bag containing Owl shaped Haribo sweets!

Reindeer day last year, Owls this year, I wonder who will come to visit HSB in 2019?? Watch this space!

Hurley Regatta 180818Hurley Regatta - 18th August 2018

This year HSB was the chosen charity for the Hurley Regatta. Our charity was put forward by Steve and Jane Rider who live in the village of Hurley.
The regatta has been celebrating this event for the past 46 years. It was a mix  of races, tug of war, fair ground rides and fun for all the family.
We had an array of lovely raffle prizes which included a donation from Henley House hotel, afternoon tea at the Compleat Angler, Beauty voucher from “Time” in the village, 3 food hampers and numerous other donations.
We managed to raise £778 from the raffle alone. The surplus income will come to Headway South Bucks.

Thank you to David Burfitt and all the committee members for making the day a huge success for Headway South Bucks.

Alpacas 050618Alpaca Visit - June 5th 2018

On Tuesday 5th June we were lucky enough to have a visit from Latton Alpacas. When they arrived and were unloaded from the trailer they caused quite a stir outside the Community centre! Lots of people came over to take photos - view some of them here.
They brought 4 of their boys for us to fuss over. Nelson ( the brown one) kept one of our volunteers quite busy!
They told us all about Alpaca fleece and we were able to feel it. They brought some Alpaca socks and told us you don't need to wash them, just air them!!
We thoroughly enjoyed their visit and hope to have them back again.

On Wednesday 9th May HSB enjoyed a lovely sunny day out for lunch followed by a show at the Wycombe Swan Theatre. The coaches collected us from Bourne End for our short trip to The Spade Oak for a lovely lunch. As you can see from these photos we were presented with a choice of very tasty meals. After a relaxed 2 course meal we boarded the coaches again for the short transfer to Wycombe Swan to see the matinee performance of An Officer and a Gentleman. It was a very good production which we thoroughly enjoyed. The singing from some talented performers was very entertaining. It was a lovely day out enjoyed by over 50 clients and volunteers.
