HSB are sad to say goodbye to our longest serving Volunteer. Eileen has served HSB from the day we opened as both Committee Member and Volunteer. She has seen many changes over the years and has worked through the numerous challenges of running a successful and worthwhile charity.
Eileen has given so much of her time, energy and dedication and will be missed by us all. HSB wish her much health and happiness in her retirement.

Visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park - Wednesday 11th June

We had a successful and enjoyable visit to the Cotswold Wildlife Park in Burford. A smooth and jam-free journey across country prior to a delicious lunch at the Cotswold Gateway Restaurant to fortify us for the visit. We had sunny weather and plenty of time to tour the park. The animals were all  active - even the notoriously shy Red Pandas. The meerkats were as cute as ever. The gardens were in full bloom and taking a trip around the park on the train allowed us to rest and enjoy them. Lots of positive feedback - 'interesting - enjoyed seeing all the animals', 'beautiful gardens - plenty of places to sit and rest and enjoy'. Thank you to all our staff and volunteers for making the outing run so smoothly. JC

Volunteer Training - Wednesday 21st May

Annual General Meeting Tuesday 6th May

Our Annual General Meeting 2014 was held on Tuesday 6 May 2014 in the Target Room at Bourne End Community Centre. The team reported HSB achievements over the past year, and presented the challenges that we face and how we plan to address them in 2014. It was a great opportunity to meet, ask questions and give input and feedback to the Management and Trustee teams.

April 2014 activities

We’ve been very busy this month at Headway South Bucks.

Bird DayTuesday 8 April 2014 was "Draw a picture of a bird day". Clients, staff and volunteers therefore attended the library to choose some bird books which we used to copy and create some wonderful pieces of art. We kept this theme for our Thursday session and the results have been fantastic. See our gallery.

Later in the month we were pleased to welcome Frances to our session who showed us how to do encaustic wax. Encaustic Wax Art

This was great fun for us all and we created some amazing artwork.  We would like to give a very special thank you to Frances for such a wonderful day.

SportsAbleLast week we attended our first trip to SportsAble in Maidenhead. Staff and volunteers attended with some of our clients who had the opportunity to play table tennis and polybat. The SportsAble minibus picked us up from Bourne End at 11. We enjoyed half an hour of sport before having our packed lunches. After lunch we played for another half an hour before returning to Bourne End at 2pm. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and we are looking forward to our next visit in May when we will be doing Archery.

Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon - Friday 4th April 2014  Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon

Headway South Bucks would like to thank our clients and carers for supporting our recent trip to the Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon. We had nothing but positive feedback from attendees who praised the 'smooth organisation' which meant that there was 'enough time to see everything'. A huge pat on the back to all of our staff and volunteers for organising the trip which was very well received.

Bubble PicturesMarch

saw clients and staff at the Resource Centre participating in Popcorn Lovers Day and National Bubble Week. To celebrate we marked the occasion by sampling various flavours of popcorn and making bubble pictures.    We’re pleased to announce that we are now able to provide music therapy at the resource centre on a monthly basis. The trial of the therapy with a mandolin player proved to be very successful and we are pleased to offer this on a more regular basis. Popcorn

Farewell!

We wish a fond farewell to Sam Godwyn who has recently left Headway to start a new job. Sam volunteered with us for two and a half years and will be missed immensely .

Thank you!

A big thank you to Amersham Round Table who assisted us with fundraising when we had the pleasure of going out with Santa and his float in December.

Headway South Bucks would like to extend our thanks to the Wycombe Philharmonic Choir who held a concert on 7th December 2013 to raise money for us.  Our very own Chair of Trustees, Jane Clarke, attended the concert and gave a speech. We are very grateful for the donation raised.
